It's All About the Resume

Today is the final day of OPERATION: Create Your Own Path, a 30-day online event featuring 30 military spouse entrepreneurs from across the globe. Every day for the past month one military spouse business owner has highlighted another on their blogs.  It has been a fantastic exercise in sharing businesses, ideas, and personalities.

On Day 5, I was a featured business and had an awesome article written about me by Jenny Theuerkauf of Little Bean Designs.  So now, on Day 30, I have the privilege of introducing you to someone special too.

Her name is Amy Schofield of Schofield Strategies.

For those of you who are not in the military I would like for you to think about this for a minute…Imagine that you have dedicated your entire professional existence, for nearly 20 years, to an organization that speaks a different language from the rest of the “real world”.  You may have a folder filled with accomplishments and experiences that illustrate your career but you have no idea how to translate them to the civilian community so they recognize your value.  Or perhaps you don’t see your own value because you are a spouse who has a spotty career path.  A career path that has been interrupted every few years by national/international moves or is missing chunks of time altogether because you have been raising a family. How do you pull together all of your unique experiences and specialized skill sets into a resume that will get you hired?  Just contact Amy!

For over 10 years Amy has focused on resume writing and professional development techniques.  She established Schofield Strategies two years ago and has found a specialized niche in the military community.  As a Navy spouse, Amy is uniquely qualified to filter through military career histories and create stellar resumes that not only get the job seeker noticed but hired as well!

Besides her professional background and military expertise, Amy also brings one more vital tool to her business…passion.  She truly cares and is motivated by the success of her clients.  She takes a personal approach in getting to know not only the data but the person she supports as well.  She knows that her one-on-one approach is the key to her success.

Although her husband is her biggest supporter, Amy receives accolades for her professionalism from every client she helps.  “Amy was spectacular and a true expert in her field. I would recommend her to anyone,” said one client.  “Wow, that was fast!  It looks spectacular!  Never thought I would look so impressive on paper,” exclaimed another.

This however, is my favorite testimonial to Amy’s talent: ““Wow!  I really can’t believe I’m reading about myself… I have goose bumps knowing that I accomplished all of this!  You’re good!!!!  THANKS!”  During the 30 days of OPERATION: Create Your Own Path I have seen a reoccurring theme in the stories of all the featured spouses and Amy is no exception.

She leads with her heart and adds a little something of herself to every interaction she has.  Amy helps veterans redefine themselves upon separation from the military so they can pursue their dreams in the civilian sector.  She encourages spouses who are hesitant about reentering the workforce by creating dazzling resumes highlighting their skills.  And networking with other entrepreneurial spouses and blogging allows her to share her knowledge of business branding.  Amy knows that personal connections only help to strengthen a professional interactions and she takes every opportunity to develop those relationships daily.

In a recent nomination submission for the Military Family Member Community Heartbeat Award her husband said, “As her business has grown and as resume orders have continued to flow in, she's had the opportunity to "pay it forward" by referring overflow clients to other military spouse-run businesses. Her caring spirit and business savvy have allowed her to mentor two other military spouses as they created their own resume-writing and virtual assistant businesses."

Though the military lifestyle can be filled with daunting change one thing remains true, we are always here to build up and support one another in our endeavors.  This has never been more evident than in the OPERATION: Create You Own Path interviews.  In 30 days we have helped to promote each other, share personal stories, and raise awareness for our businesses and opportunities.  I am so happy to have been part of this wonderful exercise and plan to continue developing these relationships long into the future.
